MY HOPE FOR WORLD PEACE.

Call me an incurable optimist if you will but this wonderful photograph from Google Images (World Peace) encapsulates my hope that one day our world will be a place of peace. Exactly how it will be achieved remains unclear to me.

I suspect that a powerful sedative taken once a day or a bit of genetic tinkering might have to be involved given that education and religion have completely failed to tame the avaricious human beast which, in the main, seems to be more intent on destroying itself than finding peace.

May the wings of the white dove of peace brush your cheek today.

I am afraid that I was left not feeling at peace and full of love for the world Daniel...because I couldn't get the previous post out of my mind.

Hence I downloaded The Muslim etc Response directly into my Diary page to reinforce the point I had just made previously....That every community has its problem citizens and regardless of whether Christian Athiest Jew or Muslim each one has its share to bring shame on the rest...I agree with your decision not to share the ugliness of intolerance...but I hope you've very carefully salvaged the source of it for future reference.

Your response was generous and concilitory and I trust gave Hermann a chance to consider his bad manners. By all means disagree but "keep it nice" is my philosphy...

But it is a lovely image promoting peace I agree with you there....but where is the evidence of it?

D.P., you seem to be so filled with hate that it scares me. I fear for you.

Hate is like a cancer. You see clearly what it does to the Israelis yet you allow it to dominate you as well. Beware the demon inside! It can be a Trojan Horse.

Mary, you and I who are older perhaps have a very limited stock of days left. Perhaps the peace we crave largely has to be created in our own minds for we cannot change the world or its people (but we can get some satisfaction from trying).

I'll look forward to seeing you on Insight next week. It's a great programme.

Cheers!

Younger people simply don't care about the world they don't care much about anything beyond their own little circle of friends. I try to get the message out to them by doing in one of my classes a powerpoint presentation about the horrors in the Israeli occupation. Yet as I was up there talking about the needless violence I looked around the room only to notice that most students found some other activity to do than listen to me. I agree that there are some that do want peace in the world and that do care about what is happening in the world.

If many of these young people believed in peace and had knowledge of the outside world then the fight against injustice would grow stronger.

As an ex-teacher Damian, I understand your frustration. Young people in the main are more interested in sex, alcohol, drugs and music than serious issues while their parents are more interested in sex, alcohol, drugs, sport, social climbing and materialism.

If education could actually teach people to question and to think for themselves I'm sure most of the problems would disappear. Sheeple have not be educated!

Cheers!

D.P. you seem to have moved from wanting to blow up the whole world in your first comment to now wanting a war of civilizations to teach the ignorant, arrogant and disgusting White man a lesson. That's quite a shift!

But isn't the President of Zimbabwe coloured? Wasn't Chairman Mao an Asian as was Pol Pot? Do you really think that the colour of a person's skin influences human behaviour and attitudes, that white=bad and coloured=good?

I've travelled a great deal, D.P., especially in India. My partner is Asian. Humans are humans the world over. Some are good, most are very average, and some are bad. Cheers!

It's all out of control, but many continue to want a World more Peaceful.
Will it ever occur? Not likely, but may appear so through time, hopefully!

We can but hope, Coffee!

Beautiful picture, Daniel! I think this world could use a few (million) more incurable optimists. Keep putting those thoughts out there...my hope is that the world will catch up, too...

And I might have to borrow this awesome graphic!

D.P., now we seem to have arrived at the position that culture is to blame. I agree with you that culture can be blamed for many things. The rigid class-filled culture in India is a graphic example. The belief that 'we're the biggest and the best' that many Americans hold is a real problem. The 'we're God's chosen people' attitude of the Israelis is another. The conflict between the Christian culture and the Muslim culture, the capitalist culture based upon greed and inequality...it goes on and on.

Surely the answer is not in one group teaching another a lesson using force but in we humans changing our attitudes to ourselves and to others, and to the world we live in. This blog is trying to do that!

Bluegrrrrl, is that graphic was on every blog, it would be a positive things.

Cheers!

Daniel,

without reading the text, I stared at the picture for a while, expectig the dove to drop on earth!

hmm I guess this expresses my state of desperation!

Daniel said...

I share your feeling, Naj. That so few are manipulating so many is the irony. Why do we let them?

Here's one DP that thinks it's a great post with a great image.
I share your hopes Daniel and am sure we will see them become a reality in our lifetim.

Why do we let them ... I wonder ...

I have been having a relatively turmopiled weekend in my blog, trying to practice peace-making in the face of ugly hatred.

I am not sure what to make of the outcome ... but maybe you are right, maybe there IS hope ... it just takes a lot of work to make peace ...

Daniel said...

Making peace, for many, means fighting against one's own nature, Naj.

Desert Peace, I'm not so sure, especially in your part of the world. A lot depends on Emperor Bush and his plans for a further extension of the American-Israel Empire.
