URGENT TELEGRAM TO ALL AMERICANS.

(This is a post that I placed on a large, American blog. You may find it interesting!)

Dear Friends, since the year 2000, when Bush became President (something that I applauded at the time), I have watched your great country closely. I have seen big changes. Unfortunately not many of them are good ones!

Simultaneously, I have watched your country, a big, powerful, militaristic country; pull my country, a little, inconsequential, peaceful country, into its rather erratic orbit, one which may eventually bring us both too close to the ‘sun’. Of course the leader of our country, John Howard (you may have heard of him), is partly to blame.

The attack on 9/11 took place. Who can forget it? I still recall the horror of the scene. I had mixed feelings I must admit. On one hand I deplored the violence wreaked upon your people, innocent people who were just going about their lives. But at the same time, keeping in mind that some of the terrible foreign policy decisions made by America over decades, I felt that some kind of major retribution may have been in the pipeline. Standing on people can create hatred you know!

Then we saw the rise of the neocons. They, like dangerous bacteria, grew in the anger generated by 9/11 and utilized to their advantage the understandable desire by America to wreak revenge upon somebody. At the same time George began to reveal his severe shortcomings: both intellectually and as a statesman. His complete ignorance about the world outside America was also exposed.

The first revenge attack was against Afghanistan and the Taliban. This attack, which had broad support from other nations, was waged ostensibly to rid the world of the totalitarian, Islamic Taliban. But it just so happened that large oil and gas supply lines from eastern Europe could be built across an occupied Afghanistan and continuous supply to the West of these important commodities guaranteed.

Then came Iraq and the overthrow of Saddam (who had once been an American ally as was Bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda). To justify this attack (by America, Britain and Australia) an Everest-sized mountain of lies were created. And again, perhaps by coincidence, it just so happened that the second country chosen for invasion had large oil deposits and had been unfriendly to Israel during the Gulf War.

This invasion and occupation was quickly achieved as any attack by a military superpower against a military minnow inevitably would be. The victory was achieved cheaply but the occupation has cost dearly. With the twin fires of Afghanistan and Iraq burning as well as the smouldering embers of the forty-year Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation (an occupation aided and abetted by America) , the Muslim world began to wonder about the purity and altruism of America’s objectives.

They understandably saw themselves as coming under threat so Jehadists began to form and move into Iraq and they joined up with those who opposed both the American occupation and the efforts of America to impose its system of government upon this ancient nation. Then, when the Sunnis and the Shias began to turn upon each other, a growing nightmare developed and the civilian death toll rose and the flow of body bags back to America increased and will continue to do so.

Since then, Israel has attacked Lebanon with its American weapons causing great destruction, many casualties and a further increase in hatred for itself and America. Iran has begun to throw its weight around using the powerful argument that: if Israel can have nuclear weapons, why shouldn’t it? The West has been caught in the net of its own hypocrisy and glaring double standards!

Currently we have the situation where American and Britain are moving more military forces into the Middle East and there is talk of using nuclear weapons against Iran either by America or Israel (as if cluster and phosphorous bombs and depleted uranium explosives weren’t horrific enough).

But the real danger lies in the efforts of a failed, discredited, foolish President (whose war-mongering has already put America in severe financial jeopardy), to create a large BUT UNWINABLE war in the Middle East while trying to achieve the following fanciful objectives: that America gains major control most of the world’s oil; that Israel becomes a regional superpower in a Muslim world; AND that his Presidential legacy may appear less disastrous than it already is.

If he is allowed to do this then the end of our world could be very close because the whole of the Muslim world will rise up and indeed there will be a war of civilizations and the ‘sun’ will be the nuclear weapons that will be unleashed.

I urge you to rise up and throw out your President before he and his cabal of right-wing Judeo-Christian Capitalist Crazies take you, and Australia, and the rest of the world, past the point of no return (assuming it hasn’t been reached already)!

You hold the fate of the whole world in your hands.

Move quickly, my friends!

I have been thinking and a very good theme song for this blog would be "This is heaven for everyone" by Queen. Reading the lyrics I have found the song to be tailored perfectly to utopia seekers!

Could you provide the lyrics that you think are appropriate, Damian?

Thanks for calling in!

sure here they are:

This could be heaven
This could be heaven
This could be heaven for everyone

In these days of cool reflection
You come to me and everything seems alright
In these days of cold affections
You sit by me - and everythings fine

This could be heave for everyone
This world could be fed, this world could be fun
This could be heaven for everyone
This world could be free, this world could be one

In this world of cool deception
Just your smile can smooth my ride
These troubled days of cruel rejection, hmm
You come to me, soothe my troubled mind

Yeah, this could be heave for everyone
This world could be fed, this world could be fun
This could be heaven for everyone, yeah
This world should be free, this world could be one
We should bring love to our daughters and sons
Love, love, love, this could be heaven for everyone
You know that
This could be heave for everyone
This could be heave for everyone

Listen - what people do to their souls
They take their lives - destroy their goals
Their basic pride and dignity
Is stripped and torn and shown to pity
When this should be heaven for everyone

Cheers!

How was the post received?

Zoe, a neocon is much the same as an extreme right-wing Liberal is in Australia.

The telegram post was received fairly well (check out THE SMIRKING CHIMP link if you're interested) but the BUCKET post shown above wasn't!

Americans find it hard to accept that their two-time election of George has been such a disaster.

Damian, I loved the lyrics. Thanks for sending them. They do seem very appropriate to what I would like to achieve. The only problem is the human specie!

I don't know what is it about us humans that we want to destroy ourselves. I mean the fatal flaw of Communism was the idea of people working to together to accomplish something for everyone.

It's something in our genes, Damian. Goya saw it and it ain't pretty!
