WORLD PEACE - IS IT AN ILLUSION?

This clever photo from Goggle Images seems to highlight the problems associated with finding peace. One minute you think you have it then, quickly, it disappears!

After major world wars peace seems to reign for a period perhaps as a result of everyone being too exhausted and bloodied and sickened by the carnage. Then, after a period of restoration, the stock market begins moving and people forget and soon enough trouble breaks out again and before you know it, the deplorable cycle begins again (a cycle applauded by the armament industry).

The U.N. was formed to stop wars. It has largely been a miserable failure and, too often, it has been used by the bigger countries to advantage themselves both militarily and economically. And therein lies the problem: the existence of so many countries all vying for a piece of the world's economic pie, all putting self-interest first.

World peace may have a chance if humans were taught to think of themselves, not as Americans or Australians or Russians or Iranians, etc, but as world citizens, all equal and all deserving of a fair share of what goodies the world has to offer.

I hunger for world peace, for the madness of war and greed to stop. Don't you?

Peace and Love.

P.S. Check The Peace Train (see Special Links) which is having a Peace Blogswarm event this week!

Great Post, Dan!
I also think it has a lot to do with the motives of big business and developed nations' financial greed. How can there be peace when there is always the motive to stab another in the back(metephorically and literally) for the sole purpose of wealth?
Until the motive is common to us all it will go on until the money hungry blow eachother off the planet!
I say, re-introduce the barter system.....wouldn't that shock the socks off them. They would have to learn to get along!

P.s perhaps us 'revolutionaries' should start blowing up mints around the world instead of campaigning for peace??? LOL

I agree with you all the way. Peace seems to be one of those things we only appreciate when we no longer have it.

My peace post will be up tomorrow.

Daniel, I tried to access the Peace Train, registered and was told of an impending email, etc. but when I submitted my info, a page popped up that my username was illegal. No other explanation or what to do. My user name is worried american and has been for quite some time so I don't know why it is deemed illegal. Sigh.

At least I tried. I was interested in the swarm.

Peace? The only peace our government is interested in is Pax Americana, a la Pax Romana. The New Rome, as per the vision of Bush, Cheney and the Neocons - imperialistic global control.

What the hell is a "Neocon"? I keep reading that on here but haven't heard it anywhere else?

I believe world peace is not achieveable while we have a full belly and a roof over our heads.

If we had less of everything in life, what we did own would become more precious to us.

Life is cheap but we have so much of it to waste!

One of my more cynical days today!

Thanks for the comments! Patricia, peace is certainly elusive. It's something to do with our genes I reckon!

Neo, a Neocon is one of a small group of imperialistic and religious extremists who are pulling the strings in the Bush Administration and, with Israel, are trying to make America THE world power.

Worried, Bluegrrrrl seems to be on top of the problem (Out Of The Blue). Suggest you give her a visit.

Mary, I hope your day improves!

Thank you for participating in the blogswarm for peace, Daniel!

Wonderful, wonderful post...especially:

"World peace may have a chance if humans were taught to think of themselves...as world citizens, all equal and all deserving of a fair share of what goodies the world has to offer.

I hunger for world peace, for the madness of war and greed to stop. Don't you?"

I do too, Daniel, I do too...

P.S. To Worried: Try again--this time register without the space in your name! WorriedAmerican or Worried-American...
Sorry...I don't know why the system doesn't allow the space, or why it doesn't give you more guidance!
