CONSPICUOUS CONSUMPTION A SIN?

According to Reuters the Pope has cautioned against buying cars "as a means for outshining other people and arousing a feeling of envy." Perhaps the Pope is unhappy with his Popemobile and wants Ferrari to give him one of their products to lift his image, to prove he's cool!

Does the Pope not realise that the whole economy of the Western World is based upon 'outshining' and 'creating envy' (it applies not only to cars but also to boats, houses, clothes, watches, etc)? Doesn't he realise that, should people listen to him and act accordingly, the whole of the capitalist world would collapse along with its small handful of anal-retentive rulers: the billionaires?

The Pope needs urgent re-education. Greed and Pretentiousness are next to Godliness!

Back and pink too! :))

Great to have you back!

You are making a good point about greed and glamor being the Roman interpretation of what godliness is about!

One only has to look at the palatial living conditions that the Pope lives in to realise he is a man of straw.

If he wanted to tell others how to live their lives he should have been more of a leader when as, Cardinal in charge of paedophilia priest education. He worked with the combined forces of some 80 Bishops who decided to do nothing. Why - the church decided it would cost too many millions to buy out their victims.

Greed comes in many forms!

Yeah, I'm in the pink! That was the template I used when I first began blogging, Naj.

It is a bit rich, Mary, the Pope pontificating about how the peasants should think given his current quarters! No hide, no Xmas cake I guess.

Glad to see you back in full force, Daniel.

Probably not full force, No. Running at the world head-on is rather debilitating!
